October 10th 2008: On Location: Ullapool and Inverpolly

I spent a very wet and windy week in north-west Scotland based in Ullapool. The north-west of Scotland must surely rank as the most beautiful part of the UK. Despite the weather the landscape presented a stunning display of colour and detail. I'll be adding images to the site over the next few weeks. Click on the link to see photos of Ullapool and Inverpolly uploaded so far.

October 2008: On Location: Autumn in Perthshire

In a serious attempt to restock the Photoluma library with fresh new images of Autumn colour I spent a week in Aberfeldy, Perthshire. This areas status as one of THE places to go to see the Autumn display is well known, and it lived up to its billing. I spent the week photographing around Loch Tummel, Aberfeldy, Dunkeld, and Glen Lyon - all beautiful in their Autumn colour. I'll be adding images to the site over the next few weeks. September 2008: On Location: Dungeness

Dungeness is an amazing place, full of decaying old fishing boats and assorted paraphernalia. The beach itself runs north-south and so makes a great location for either morning or afternoon photography. I'd visited Dungeness several times before, but on this visit I was trying out a second hand Fuji GA645Zi format film camera, and concentrating on the details as well as the wider view. Click on the link to see photos of Dungeness. A few days later I returned with a digital camera (Kodak P88)) to try out a couple of additional ideas.

Also experimented with new camera techniques while on the beach. Click on the link to see a selection of photographs of Cornwall from the visit.

19th May 2008: On Location: Snowdonia

Snowdonia is fast becoming one of my favourite photography locations. It has high mountains, deep sheltered valleys, fast flowing rivers, awesome waterfalls, and a landscaspe that reflects the full variety of the changing seasons. It also has good parking and well maintained footpaths providing excellent access for photography. I spent the week based in Betws-y-Coed, exploring for a few days before joining the Light & Land tour led by Steve Lewis. Click on the link to see a selection of photographs of Snowdonia from the visit. Alternatively, click on the next link to see a broader selection of photography from Wales and Snowdonia .

6th March 2008: On Location: Camber Sands Beach

I'd been thinking for some time about visiting Camber Sands, one of the few sandy beaches, with dunes, within a few hours drive of here. On this trip, I was aiming to scout the location, so I took along only my small digital compact camera (Panasonic Lumix FX33). Although overcast, I thought it was worth attempting a few compositions. The aim now is to return with the serious gear later. Click on the link to see a selection of photos of Camber Sands from the visit.

March 2008: Photoluma completes Hadrian's Wall commission for English Heritage

I recently completed a commission to photograph Hadrian's Wall on behalf of English Heritage. Hadrian's Wall was built on the orders of the Roman emperor Hadrian following his visit to England in AD122. The wall stretches for over 70 miles from Carlisle to Newcastle, and traverses some of Englands most impressive and inspiring scenery. I concentrated my efforts on the central section of the wall, around Haltwhistle, where the wall winds its way through an undulating landscape of crags and riggs. The images supplied to English Heritage will be used to inspire people to support its work to protect England's historic environment and to visit its properties. Click on the link to see a selection of photographs from the Hadrian's Wall commission..
